What characters can be used in an anchor link ID?

The ID must begin with a letter and may include additional letters, digits, hyphens, underscores, colons, or periods.

The anchor link ID is added to the URL following a hashtag (#) symbol automatically, you don't need to add the hashtag to the Anchor Link ID.

An Anchor Link ID can include these characters following the initial letter:

  • Letters (A-Z, a-z)
  • Digits (0-9)
  • Hyphens ("-")
  • Underscores ("_")
  • Colons (":")
  • Periods (".")

We recommend making the anchor link ID short and intuitive, for example, if the heading on the page is "Anchor Link IDs" then the ID could be "anchor-link-ids" to follow a standard naming convention.
